Extra Artistry

This is the ever-expanding list of skills I've learned to compliment my main discipline of illustration!

SKetching

Sketching is a very important part of my creative process! I prefer to do a few, detail-packed sketches per piece, as opposed to many simple ones. Doing this gives me a fairly solid look at what the finished prouduct might look like, while allowing me to exaggerate and stylize it using the intricate sketch as a base.

Although it doesn't scratch the same itch as making art digitally, I enjoy working traditionally when I've got the time and the materials.

Traditional/Mixed Media

‍ ‍"Kid Cave Urchin" -Posca + CSP on homasote board [September 2025]

"Crucifixation of the Cackling Djinn" -Graphite pencil on paper [October 2025]

"Bringing Home the Bacon" -Acrylic on paper [August 2026]

"Corpse Mods are Done!" Posca + ink on paper [May 2024]

Photography

Taking photos and viewing the world as though it were on a canvas did a lot to help me build confidence in my art. Drawing landscapes can be very scary, so seeing how the real world looks in another way can make it easier to break down environments into shapes that can be better understood and recreated. It's also fun!

Dollmaking

I've always been good at sewing, more because I would rip and need to repair clothes constantly than because I wanted to sew new things. But I tried my hand at dollmaking one night, and I found the whole experience super rewarding! Drawing isn't a very tactile activity, so I found the feeling of holding and manipulating the object as you're making it a good one I have been sorely bereft of!
